Exploring Handmade Chain
Exploring Handmade Chain
Saturday September 28th
10-4pm
Come learn chain making techniques on this full day workshop. We will explore how to get movement and fluidity in your design and how to use aspect ratios in design.
Topics we cover
soldering vs fusing vs open links
wrapped loop vs open loop
aspect ratio
material differences and how to choose well
gravity and how the chain is worn
weight consideration
how to build up a link chain quickly
pick soldering
argentium fusing
cold connection types
handmade links and balling up connections
You may use the large jumpring machine here to manufacture links or use your design skills to make your own custom link type.
You will be given premade open jumprings to practice techniques on and you need to bring in your chosen material to work in. If you want to practice looping and wrapped loops make sure your wire is the right gauge for your beads. Feel free to bring in Argentium wire to try out fusing if you wish - a great materials for playing with.
